There must be some kind of cosmic anomaly or karma disturbance that impacts humanity as daily circumstances change. Maybe it’s a universe that works to stay in balance by upsetting our lives from time to time.
Whatever it is, that disturbance struck in full force today. I use Dropbox and iCloud. The former syncs faster than the latter, so I use Dropbox for items like 1Password, but iCloud for items like photos and various files.
Dropbox decided to limit its free tier to three devices. As of today I have two Macs, two iPads, and two iPhones all synced to Dropbox’s free service (limited to 2GB). While I can keep those devices and still use the free tier, I cannot add new devices and I plan to get a new Mac and iPad soon so you can see the dilemma. Pay Dropbox by the month or seek another solution.
I chose to move 1Password and other files from Dropbox to iCloud. That’s when the universe decided to have a bout of hiccups.
It’s easy to switch from Dropbox to iCloud in 1Password. Simply change the sync setting. If life were only see easy in a twitchy universe that demands adherence to karma and cosmic laws we don’t fully understand and may never appreciate.
iCloud went down as I was making the switch from Dropbox to iCloud. Chaim Gartenberg:
Facebook’s hours-long outage may have finally ended, and apparently, it’s Apple’s turn for a system outage. The company is reporting ongoing issues across almost all of its iCloud services
A disturbance in the space time continuum that was wholly designed to thwart my plans to move from Dropbox to iCloud.
What’s going on?
According to the company’s support page, the problem is widespread. iCloud sign in, Backup, Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Keychain, iCloud Drive file storage, iWork, Photos, Notes, Reminders, Find My iPhone, and more are all apparently affected by the issue.
But not Dropbox, which is what I tried to escape from before the universe issued a karma alert on my bad self. Apple’s System Status page above tells the tale but does not compare favorably to the Dropbox System Status page.
Fear not. The universe is working diligently to get itself corrected. Karma seeks a balance. You’ll see another example of karma in action in 2020.
