Forget about the billion highly satisfied customers. Forget about the tens of billions drawing interest in banks all over the world. Forget about the cottage industry that watches– with criticism and applause– every move the company makes, and many they don’t make. Forget about all that because expectations are an individual’s right to determine.
Fair enough, except when supposedly experienced and knowledgeable technology critics resort to link bait headlines, and topics that inflame instead of provide insightful analysis. The latest comes from ZDNet, of course, the once proud technology site that, thanks to a diminished reputation in tech community, has fallen into disrepair. Seriously, I think they use a bot to write topics, headlines, and articles.
Apple should codename iOS 10 ‘Twinkie’ because it’s full of fluff and filler
Actually, that seems appropriate for ZDNet because they fully understand and appreciate fluff and filler.
All Your IoT Devices are Doomed
And a favorite:
The world’s most secure smartphones– and why they’re all Androids.
Then there’s this oldie but goodie:
Linux Mint 18: The best desktop — period.
Uh huh. Sure. 2016 will be the Year of Linux on the Desktop. Again.
You see the pattern, right? These are not articles of insightful analysis. They are articles that titillate your senses, but not that part of the brain that matters. They’re technology chewing gum, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise when one of ZDNet’s most infamous writers compares iOS 10 to a Twinkie.
Fluff and filler is a staple for ZDNet.
Just yesterday I did a search for an article I read recently about how nobody is buying Apple Watch and what a dud it was because, you know, research. The research was a survey of a few hundred iPhone users and only around 5-percent or so were certain they would buy Apple Watch.
Perhaps 250-million new iPhones will be purchased this year. 5-percent of that is a whopping 12.5-million, which is tiny by iPhone numbers, but huge by watch numbers. Apple dominates the smartwatch industry and despite the fact that Watch is a mere accessory to iPhone, Watch now is the major player in the entire watch industry.
You would never know that from the headlines I found yesterday.
The Real Reason You Don’t Care About Apple Watch
And, my favorite:
More than a year after its release, and still no one wants to buy an Apple Watch
Uh huh. Sure. Is that analysis or link bait? I think the latter because people have bought Apple Watch, continue to buy Apple Watch, and I suspect– based upon historical analysis of Apple, the company’s customers, and my personal experience– will buy Apple Watch, despite the ridiculous headlines.

Why I have finally taken off Apple Watch for the last time.
Today’s online technology websites are full of fluff and filler. They’re the drugstores of technology news, whereby drug stores sell all kinds of things besides drugs. Look at the bottom of the ZDNet website and you’ll see links to articles like these:
- Exploring Hong Kong Outdoors
- America’s 50 Biggest Cities– Who’s The Richest?
- A Retirement Checklist for Married Couples
- Unique Baby Shower Gift Ideas?8 Poisonous Foods We Commonly Eat
With links like those scattered all over ZDNet, why should I take stock in an article that disses iOS 10 with a Twinkie comparison? Obviously, ZDNet is not serious about technology so I have to lower my expectations to match the drivel they publish.
