What is Apple working on for its next insanely great thing? Watch, of course. Thinner, lighter, faster Macs, iPhones, iPads, naturally. But those are not the insanely great next thing on Apple’s horizon.
Company CEO Tim Cook said recently that Apple was working on some great products that haven’t even been rumored about yet. Really? The rumor mongering technorati elite who get paid by the number of eyeballs to read their drivel have some rather vivid imaginations, yet no one is talking about Apple’s untalked about new product?
Fair enough. I’m game. How about this one to titillate your imagination? Apple Camera. Or, more specifically Camera.
What? A camera? I’m sure you’re thinking, “Gimme a break, Tera. Why would Apple bother with a camera when the iPhone’s camera is so blankety blank good already?”
That’s the point. The iPhone 6 camera, with a measly 8-megapixel sensor, still ranks as one of the best smartphone cameras, with photos that often top point-and-shoot cameras, and begin to rival photos taken with DSLRs with their expensive lenses.
In other words, Apple gets tremendous mileage from a low megapixel sensor and teeny tiny lenses. How much better would the photos and videos be if Apple stuck their famed software and A9 CPU into a camera shell with real lenses and a really hefty multidigit-megapixel sensor and all the assorted sensors and hardware necessary to do more than 4k videos?
Watch out Canon, Nikon, and all the rest of cameradom. Apple might just impact yet another industry with a little of the company’s famed Disruption Dust.
