Yeah, it was nice and all, and even had a few personal phrases dropped in, and then there’s that idea of ‘it’s the thought that counts,’ but what does it say about 21st century society when we don’t take the time to shop for a greeting card?
His argument was good, though. It saved him time so he could devote more time to shopping for chocolates and making a dinner reservation. That got me to thinking, ‘Can a Mac be a greeting card factory?‘ Is it possible to cut out the Hallmark middleman?
A quick trip to the Mac App Store with the search term ‘greeting cards’ turned up more than expected, including an official Hallmark app. Among the most expensive greeting card apps, Hallmark Card Studio matches the price tag with many thousands of Hallmark cards and graphics, plus some exclusive fonts.
Pretty much every greeting card need is in that app.
Choose a preset card design or create your own from scratch. Interestingly, Hallmark’s Mac app struggles to get good reviews, with most users giving one or two stars.
Easily the most popular is Fun Greetings which has a few dozen cards which are easily customized to match your personal tastes. This one is relatively inexpensive but there’s a free version to try first. The same developer has additional greeting card apps with more themes.
What’s interesting about creating apps from your Mac is that the choices of cards and occasions easily tops what you’d find at the Hallmark card store in the mall. So, you save time, gasoline, and avoid those inevitable spur of the moment purchases.
