Weather in and around the Chicago area is, just to put it politely– the pits. Except for a couple of weeks in late may, and a couple of weeks in early October, it’s either too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet, or just too much of everything we don’t really like.
Mother nature must not like this part of the Midwest. Maybe that’s why I like Yahoo’s free iPhone weather app. It uses attractive photos in the background to describe the current weather. That same simple, elegant visual is available with Beautiful Weather, a not-quite-so-free app for your Mac.
As weather information goes, Beautiful Weather doesn’t break much new ground, and certainly doesn’t give you detailed weather conditions, trends or historical weather data.
But it’s pretty too look at.
Add up to 12 cities and get weather information and forecasts overlaid on a photo to match the city or current weather conditions. MacBook users can swipe to browse through photos.
And, well, that’s about it. The number of cities you can display is limited, functionality isn’t anything great, but it’s visually attractive, updates weather data automatically, and the photos change often (depending on the city selected).
Is that worth a few bucks? Yeah, why not?
