From Mac to iPhone to iPad, about the only ways we can personalize anything is by rearranging app icons, or adding some custom Desktop pictures (wallpaper). Apple has become more like the Big Brother in the famous 1984 television commercial which announced the Mac than the young upstart company going up against the establishment.
In many ways, Apple is the establishment. So, we’re left to the devices of third party app developers to come up with ways to customize our Macs. One of the more interesting ways is Pimp Your Screen.
This inexpensive Mac app displays a collection of custom wallpaper; background images for your Mac’s Desktop.
Select the image you want to use as your Desktop background in the viewer, then click. Done.
Some images are cute, others minimalistic, others abstract, but all are unique and easily changed using Pimp Your Screen.
Background come in many categories so the selection is substantial. The app gives you options to preview before changing, and each background can be rated. New background images are provided regularly.
And, for MacBook Pro with Retina display owners, the images are ready for the Retina display and provide even higher quality than standard Mac Desktop background photos.
I’ve read reports that the images don’t scale well on the 27-inch Mac displays and the app doesn’t have a built-in option to change the background based on a schedule or day. Otherwise, nicely done, inexpensive, attractive, and very simple to operate.
