What we do is rock the house with iTunes, the family Mac, and a set of huge speakers in the family basement. Our latest find for the Mac is Billboard. This very cool app is a front-end for iTunes with support for fullscreen and window views.
Think of it as a DJ screen where anyone can walk up and be in total control over what’s playing on iTunes.
Billboard works best on large screen Macs. Lyrics for songs playing in iTunes are easily viewed in fullscreen mode. Remote control is still managed by Apple Remote. And right from the screen you can browse iTunes’ internet radio stations.
If you’re working on your Mac while listening to iTunes, well, no problemo. Billboard gets out of fullscreen mode and lives quietly in a corner. The Virtual DJ feature announces songs for you.
There are a dozen iTunes control apps for the Mac, but only one that lets you control the whole shebang, fullscreen, with Apple Remote.
Preferences give you controls over the Virtual DJ, Kiosk mode, visual Presentation, the browser and much more.
Billboard works well as an easy controller for iTunes. It displays album art and lyrics, and that alone is worthy, but it’s best used in a sort of family kiosk mode (although good for DJ’s working with an Apple Remote).
