99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall

Has anyone actually made it through all 99 verses?

I'm not much of a beer drinker, though I've had my moments. The taste and variety of beer varies tremendously, but I've never become accustomed to warm.

Perhaps chilled beer is an American infatuation. I’ve been to Europe and Asia. Warm beer is more common in the former than the latter.

Even the term “warm” requires a definition as the actual temperature of beer served in various parts of the US and the rest of the world varies.

I hope my Aussie friends forgive me; I like beer so cold I can feel it going all the way down; so cold that when it comes out an hour later it’s still cold.

Much of what passes for good beer these days has more of a bitter taste than I care for. It’s a problem I have with coffee, which I cannot drink.

Too much Kool-Aid as a kid now requires adult beverages to carry similarly sweet requirements.

As to 99 bottles of beer on the wall, has anyone actually made it through all 99 verses? Sober? I remember getting down to the 20th verse once or twice, though I remember nothing after that.

Maybe we made it, maybe we didn’t. We tried. That was before the age of a designated driver who could have doubled as judge and official counter.

I bring up the 99 bottles because yesterday marked 99 days, starting from my objective of 101 days. That gets me to about the last week of August.

Beer is best served in the summer when it’s warm and dry. Or, hot and dry. Or, when you’re just dry. August will be fine, and LA will be sufficiently dry and warm.

I don’t have a favorite beer but as I get closer to the middle of August I’ll get a few bottles of what I remember tasting good and put them on ice.

A few friends and family will be around to help me count down. 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. 101 Days.

Then I’ll pop a cold one and say, ’This Bud’s for you.’

Ah, yes- the colder the better. So cold your fingers get numb- that’s when it tastes the best.

I’m more of a coffee drinker these days, though- a very picky coffee drinker. I, too like sweet- not bitter. Strong, though- with just enough sugar (tons) and a touch of cream.

I don’t recall ever singing the song ("99 bottles..")- but you never know. I can change the words to “101 or Many More Days..”

Sorry Tera, it’s 974 days ‘til a certain prez leaves office. Dancing and partying (and singing) ensue...attendance is mandatory!
As for the coffee, every caf?© and restaurant in Spain uses 20% sugar roasted Torrefacto Coffee. The best coffee in the world, no bitterness whatsoever. It costs me 10 times the price to get it here in the States, but it’s worth every penny. I’ll gladly mail you a bag of it.

“I like beer so cold...” and so say all of us who live in often hot climates. Although we still drink it cold in Winter, though here it only gets down to about 4-5 degrees C. Then I drink Coopers Stout. Recommended.

I will toast you in August (every day) with a Coopers. Best wishes and thoughts for you from Oz.

I spent 10 of my 20 years in the military living in England.  That’s where the warm beer is.  (Germans think English beer is the temperature of their bathwater.) I loved the stuff.  “Boy, if only they had this back home!” I said.  All we had there were various lagers, all of them fairly tasteless.  After my last 5-year stint in England, I returned home to find… Microbrews?  “Damn!  If only they had these in England!”

The best beer I ever had:  I was a runner, carrying messages back and forth from the radio announcer’s booth on the inside of Kent Raceway (now Seattle International Raceway) and the pits.  That was in the mid-1960s.  The temperature was in the high 90s in the shade and over 130 degrees on the track.  Being red-haired with fair complexion, my appearance must have frightened my dad.  He handed me a 16-ounce, ice-cold Lucky Lager beer.  It was smooth, thirst- quenching and even though I’ve never cared for beer, that one was a wonderful experience.  It tasted even sweeter because it was an unexpected gift from my dad.  I was 16 years old at the time and I’ve never had a tastier brew since.

Ah, English beer…

Warm or not, I miss it every time I’m away from England - even for the day.

It’s about the only thing I miss about England mind. Well, there’s the wife of course!

What is it with the rest of the world and their fizzy pop (lager)? :o)

I miss Tera. These last few postings- not a language I’m aware of on this earth....
