Slaving over a hot keyboard all day puts an ache into my shoulders, a weight on my back, and Mr. Sandman residue in my eyes.
I’m a big fan of distraction free writing on my Mac, but sometimes the distractions get under my skin.
I’m also a big fan of Sonic Mood, the Mac app that creates background sounds, and lets you put them into iTunes to carry around on your iPhone or iPod.
If you’re on a limited budget and can’t afford all those soothing sounds, then maybe all you need is soothing White Noise. This is an inexpensive Mac app that’s loaded with dozens of ambient sounds which help melt away disturbing distractions, and put your mind more at ease.
White Noise isn’t so much white noise as it is background moods. It uses an iTunes Cover Flow-like interface so you can flip through images which describe the different mood sounds.
The audio can be faded in and out slowly, so you drift off to sleep, and awake without the jarring sound of an alarm clock.
Speaking of an alarm clock, White Noise has a built-in digital clock. It also supports the Mac’s Full Screen feature which makes it easier to flip through the mood images.
What kind of sounds and photos make up White Noise? Everything from the beach, blue and brown noise (don’t ask), crickets, clothes dryer, rain and more and heavy rain, fireplace, violet noise, white noise, wind, chimes, city noise, a heartbeat, and much more.
You can flip through White Noise image to select, or mix and match from the sidebar.
What do you get for a few bucks? A little fun, and a bunch of backgrounds that can help you sleep better, wake up more relaxed, and let you focus on your work free of most distractions.
